Business reviews

Know where your business stands
before the year end arrives

A business review gives you a clearer view of your figures during the year,
so you can understand profit, cash flow, tax and the decisions ahead
before the year end has already passed.

What is a business review?

A business review is a focused meeting where we look at your current business figures with you.

Before our meeting, we review the information available in your bookkeeping software, usually Xero, and look for anything that needs attention.

During the meeting, we talk through the key reports with you, explain what the figures are showing and discuss any decisions that may need to be made.

This is not just a general chat. It is a practical review based on your actual accounts, so the conversation is grounded in the current position of your business.  That last sentence is important. It makes the service feel tangible.

Your current position

We look at the figures in front of us and what they may mean for your business.

Areas to review

Review the reports and highlight anything that may need attention.

Timely decisions

Talk through purchases, dividends, tax planning or other questions before year end.

When a review can be useful

A business review can be useful if:

  • Your year end is approaching
  • Profits are higher or lower than expected
  • You want to understand your likely tax bill
  • You are thinking about buying equipment
  • You are considering taking on staff
  • You want to know whether the business can afford something
  • You are planning dividends, pension contributions or other decisions
  • You feel unsure what your figures are really showing
BUSINESS REVIEW SUPPORT

Why review before year end?

A review during the year gives you more room to make decisions.

Once the year end has passed, some options may no longer affect that year’s accounts. Reviewing the figures before then means there may still be time to think about equipment purchases, pension contributions, dividend planning or other tax-related decisions.

It also gives you a better sense of your likely tax position, so you are not waiting until the accounts are completed to find out where things stand.

Time to act

Look at your options while decisions can still make a difference.

Fewer surprises

Get an indication of your likely tax position before the year end has passed.

Better planning

Think ahead about purchases, dividends and other business decisions.

Limited Company Support

Does my bookkeeping need to be up to date?

Ideally, yes.

A business review is most useful when the figures are current enough to support useful decisions.

If your bookkeeping is incomplete, we can help you work out the best starting point. We may suggest reviewing what is available, or we may help bring the records up to date first, check whether the reports are usable, and then carry out the review once there is a clearer picture to work from.

Before the review

We may look at:

  • How up to date your records are
  • Whether the figures are ready to review
  • Whether anything needs correcting first
  • What the most useful next step would be

We can help and advise on these.

What Happens Next?

Getting started with a business review

If you would like a clearer view of your figures before making a decision, or before your year end passes, get in touch and we can talk through whether a business review would be useful.

You do not need to know exactly what kind of review you need. We can start with where your business is now and explain the most useful next step.
